BIO [SONGMAKER]
Eclectic music with influences of Lounge, Electronica, Jazz, and Pop
The work of G.T. Thomas ranges stylistically across five albums to reveal her many facets as a producer, songwriter, vocalist, arranger, and multi-instrumentalist, garnering her comparisons to Goldfrapp, Kate Bush, Cibo Matto, and even “the Muppets on acid” (by music blog 3voor12).
She has performed in the US, Europe, and Scandinavia, and collaborated with artists like Fleet Foxes, Benny Sings, The Metropole Orchestra, and members of The B-52s, Steely Dan, and The Free Design. Her own live act has ranged from a pop orchestra of 13 people, to performing as a one-woman-band (playing multiple instruments simultaneously while singing).
Currently, Thomas is taking a break from her songmaking work as a solo artist and is funneling these energies into her duo Scrap Fiasco, alongside her musical partner Bruce Hamilton. If you like her solo work, you'll love the duo.
BIO [SYNTHS]
SYNTHESIST AND GUEST LECTURER
G.T. Thomas has performed original minimalist, meditative, and sometimes danceable music on her semi-modular synth system from Amsterdam to New York, Los Angeles, and beyond.
Her work blends pre-composed structures with improvisations. She coined the term "phrase phasing" for one of her signature techniques, which is exploring the phase-like impact of phrases of overlapping, varying lengths as they go through changes of timbre and tempo. Her gentle approach to electronic music allows room for details like soft vocals and music boxes in her arrangements.
Additionally, Thomas conducts workshops and guest lectures on electronic music composition and creative songwriting processes, with previous engagements with institutions such as Bakersfield College (Panorama Creative Music Summit), Byrdcliffe Artist Residency, Popsport Nederland, and SUNY New Paltz (Advanced Electronic Music Program)
G.T. Thomas' current creative collaborations have her splitting her time between Amsterdam, Los Angeles, and the Pacific Northwest. Join her exclusive community to find out all about what this entails, and to get behind-the-scenes process stuff on all of this and more (not shared anywhere else online). Occasionally, it's possible to work with G.T. Thomas on your music, or your project that is in need of original music or music/audio editing. Please see "collaborate," and check in to see if she's available and a good fit!
